Bobbie and I have started our training. Last week in fact. But last night we started with 2 laps of West Edmonton Mall. 1 lap, including all the alcoves, is aprox. 3.5 kms. So last night, after having worked at Fero and Adittion-Elle, we walked 2 laps. That's almost 7 kms, and nearly 8,500 steps. So finally I have made "the goal" of walking 10,000 steps in a day!! And although I was tired, I felt damn good! And even more surprising, I am not sore today. I find it to be quite amazing that my body has taken to this so well, seeing as up until recently I've lead a predominantly sedimentary lifestyle.
Aside from doing this for a great cause (The Breast Cancer Foundation, for those who are not familiar with the reason for starting this community in the first place), I'm doing this in memory of my sister, Mandy (even though she didn't have breast cancer, she was still afflicted with a cancer that ultimately took her life), and for myself. I want to lose this weight I've managed to keep on for so long (far, FAR too long, in fact!!) and get in shape. I want to feel healthy and beautiful again.
A big part of all this is water intake. This next part is a bit boring, so go ahead and read something else if you like. Anyhoo, about a month ago, a lady came into Addition-Elle and was talking to one of the girls about detox. I got intrigued, so she talked to me too. Apparently, drinking your 8 glasses of water a day isn't good enough if you're over weight and trying to shed excess pounds. Drinking water helps, but it needs to be a certain amount in order to be effective.
So here's what you do:
1. Weigh yourself in pounds (lbs)
2. Divide that number in half
3. BINGO! That's the magic number... that's how many ounces of water you should drink in a day.
Andrea (hey, that's me!!) should be drinking 145 ounces of water a day.
That's 18 cups or 4,259 millilitres or 5.6 of my Evian sport water bottles (it's 750 mls). HOLY HELL... can I actually drink that much water without floating away??? Right now it's 10:30am and I've drank 1 and 1/3 of my Evian bottles of water. I still have almost 4.5 Evian bottles to go. Andrea suddenly hears the faint chanting of 'Chug, chug, chug, chug!!' off in the distance....
